The best players in the world play fantasy baseball on NFBC. The most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1,750 buy-in with a $7,000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pickups on Sunday night.
Each week, I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups
Ronny Mauricio was picked up in all 57 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $203 and a minimum bid of $23. Mauricio is a former top prospect who missed all of 2024 with a knee injury.
There is a ton of pop and some speed in the profile, but Mauricio has struggled to make consistent contact. If he can make that contact, he could have a massive impact, but early returns say it is unlikely.
Kyle Teel was picked up in 56 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $254 and a minimum bid of $1. Teel is a top prospect for the White Sox who was the centerpiece of the Garrett Crochet deal this offseason.
Teel doesn’t have a carrying tool for fantasy, necessarily, but he can do a bit of everything. Teel’s value will come down to playing time. If he is splitting time behind the plate with Edgar Quero, he won’t be able to do enough to make up for the lack of plate appearances.
However, the White Sox are letting him catch more than Quero, and he is also getting plate appearances as the team’s designated hitter when not catching. This could make him a low-end C1 or high-end C2 in most formats.
Sawyer Gipson-Long was picked up in 55 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $80 and a minimum bid of $6. Gipson-Long was a popular sleeper before having Tommy John surgery and missing last year.
Gibson-Long pitched well in the Minors before being called up, but most pitchers coming back from Tommy John struggle with command and control, so there will likely be bumps along the way.

David Fry was picked up in 53 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $72 and a minimum bid of $1. Fry missed the first part of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery and is unable to play the field.
However, Fry was great last season before the injury, hitting .263/.356/.448 with 14 home runs and four stolen bases. The big question will be how much he will play since he can’t play the field. With Kyle Manzardo taking at-bats at designated hitter, too, Fry won’t have the ability to accumulate much.
David Festa was picked up in 30 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $68 and a minimum bid of $8. Festa returned to the Twins’ rotation after the injuries to Pablo Lopez and Zebby Matthews.
The talent has not been in question for Festa, but the Twins have not allowed him to go deep into games. They may not have the option now due to the lack of depth, making Festa an intriguing waiver wire pickup in all formats.
Jac Caglianone was picked up in 35 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $414 and a minimum bid of $157. Caglianone is a premier prospect for the Royals. He made his debut last week.
Caglianone crushed the Minors, hitting .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and two stolen bases in 229 plate appearances. There is a ton of talent and upside if he can make enough contact to unlock his enormous power.
Jacob Melton was picked up in 32 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $73 and a minimum bid of $1. Melton is the Astros’ top prospect and made his debut last week.
There is a good amount of power and speed in his profile. The question will be how much playing time Melton will get in Houston. If he is playing regularly and making contact, there is a lot of upside in his bat.
