Fantasy Football Draft Court: 5 Expert Debates (2025)

The FantasyPros courtroom was back in session, and the docket was stacked. Five polarizing players. Two fantasy football experts. One judge in a wig. And a jury of passionate viewers.

In this special episode of Fantasy Football Draft Court, Pat Fitzmaurice and Andrew Erickson pleaded their cases for (and against) some of the most hotly debated names in 2025 fantasy football. Judge Joey P presided. And the people rendered their verdicts.

Here’s a breakdown of all five debates—and where you should stand heading into your drafts.

Fantasy Football Draft Debates

Case 1: Alvin Kamara – Safe Floor or Washed RB?

  • Erickson’s Rank: RB19
  • Fitz’s Rank: RB13
  • ECR: RB16
  • Verdict: ✅ Draft (60% of jury votes)

Alvin Kamara finished as the RB6 in points per game last season. That’s the stat Pat Fitzmaurice leaned on to defend his ranking inside the top 15. He believes the presence of inexperienced QBs in New Orleans (Tyler Shough or Spencer Rattler) only strengthens Kamara’s PPR outlook, as they’ll likely lean heavily on checkdowns.

Erickson, on the other hand, sees Kamara as a declining asset. He’s approaching 30, his touchdown totals have been pedestrian in recent years (4, 6, 8), and the Saints’ offense ranks near the bottom of the league in projected scoring. His take: Kamara is a safe RB2 in full PPR, but his upside is capped.

“Kamara remains one of the very best pass-catching backs in football—and he might be the entire offense this year.” —Fitz

Case 2: Javonte Williams – Value in Dallas or Just Another Dead Zone Back?

  • Erickson’s Rank: RB37
  • Fitz’s Rank: RB30
  • ECR: RB34
  • Verdict: ✅ Draft (59%)

Dallas is a mess at running back, and Fitz believes that’s exactly why you should bet on Javonte Williams. He’s the only back on the roster with a legitimate three-down skill set, and if he’s finally healthy after that devastating knee injury, he could dramatically outperform ADP.

Erickson agrees Williams might start the season as the RB1, but thinks that’s about where the optimism ends. His efficiency cratered post-injury, and history isn’t kind to backs who suffer major ligament damage. Even if he wins the job, Erickson argues, he’s unlikely to be anything more than a floor play.

Case 3: Tyreek Hill – Fading or Still the Cheetah?

  • Erickson’s Rank: WR23
  • Fitz’s Rank: WR16
  • ECR: WR14
  • Verdict: ✅ Draft (55%)

Hill’s production fell off last year, and Erickson says that’s not just on Tua. Hill’s yards after the catch per reception fell off a cliff, and his route efficiency tumbled. Erickson’s concern: once elite speed goes, it goes fast. And if Hill isn’t the dominant after-the-catch threat he once was, he’s just an aging WR on a sinking ship.

Fitz countered with this: Hill had 81/959/6 in a “bad” season. The Dolphins were banged up, playing scared with Tua, and went horizontal instead of vertical. If Miami pushes the ball again in 2025, Hill is still the guy. Also, he literally ran a 100-meter dash in just over 10 seconds this offseason.

“Even in a down year, Hill put up WR2 numbers. That’s not washed.” —Fitz

Case 4: DK Metcalf – New Team, New Life?

  • Erickson’s Rank: WR29
  • Fitz’s Rank: WR20
  • ECR: WR22
  • Verdict: ✅ Draft (62%)

Metcalf’s move to Pittsburgh means a new QB (Aaron Rodgers) and a new playcaller (Arthur Smith). That combo sounds exciting until you remember Smith’s offenses have rarely supported productive fantasy wideouts.

Erickson pointed out that Metcalf has just 66 receptions in each of the last two seasons and hasn’t finished as a top-15 WR since 2020. His fear? Smith leans on tight ends and the run game, and Rodgers—at 41—isn’t likely to pepper Metcalf with enough volume to return value.

Fitz pushed back. Rodgers made Devante Adams and Garrett Wilson fantasy stars. And Metcalf’s size and ability make him a perfect back-shoulder target. Even if the passing volume isn’t elite, the target share and red zone looks will be.

“At WR30, Metcalf may be the last alpha WR1 you can get.” —Fitz

Case 5: Chris Olave – Star in Waiting or Sinking with the Saints?

  • Erickson’s Rank: WR42
  • Fitz’s Rank: WR32
  • ECR: WR31
  • Verdict: ❌ Fade (74%)

This was the one argument the jury fully agreed with Erickson on.

His case: Olave is a floor play with zero ceiling. He’s finished outside the top 36 WRs in points per game in both of his seasons, has just a handful of top-12 weekly finishes, and has been routinely out-produced by teammate Rashid Shaheed. Throw in below-average QB play and concussion concerns, and the risk outweighs the reward.

Fitz leaned on Olave’s elite route-running metrics and 2.21 career yards per route run, comparable to stars like Ja’Marr Chase. He also reminded the court that every NFL team produces at least 3,000 passing yards… even the 2024 Patriots. But that wasn’t enough to overcome concerns about usage, health, and the Saints’ outlook.

“I just can’t stomach drafting two Saints. Not in this economy.” —Erickson

Final Verdicts

The gavel has come down—and so have the rankings. In the end, the players who won over the jury weren’t perfect prospects; they were discounted starters, volume plays, and once-elite talents priced with room to rebound.

Winners of the Courtroom Battles:

  • ✅ Alvin Kamara
  • ✅ Javonte Williams
  • ✅ Tyreek Hill
  • ✅ DK Metcalf

Only Loss:

  • ❌ Chris Olave

Fitz took the courtroom crown with a 4-1 win over Erickson. But the real takeaway? These are players you’ll need to make a call on during your draft. Know the arguments. Know the risks. And let the people decide.
