Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings

George Kirby (SP – SEA) vs. CWS

According to FanGraphs, in 21 starts spanning 121.2 innings at home since last year, George Kirby has twirled a 3.18 ERA, 3.42 xFIP, 1.04 WHIP, 3.9 BB% and 24.2 K%. He also has a favorable matchup and drool-inducing betting info.

The White Sox are 29th in wRC+ (83) with a 21.8 K% versus righties and 26th in wRC+ (86) with a 24.0 K% on the road in 2025. Chicago was tied for seventh in wRC+ (109) with an 18.9 K% in the previous 30 days. So, the White Sox have hit well lately. Nevertheless, the larger sample is less favorable. Thus, the Mariners are listed as commanding -250 favorites, and the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly 7.5 runs.

Jeffrey Springs (SP – ATH) at WAS

Jeffrey Springs is in excellent form. The lefty has had the following stats in his previous five starts spanning 28.2 innings.

  • 3.77 ERA
  • 3.80 xFIP
  • 3.81 SIERA
  • 0.94 WHIP
  • Four wins
  • Four quality starts
  • 2.7 BB%
  • 20.7 K%
  • 10.6 SwStr%
  • 28.5 CSW%
  • 93 stuff+
  • 105 location+
  • 97 pitching+

Springs can stay in good form in a plus matchup. The Nationals are tied for 19th in wRC+ (87) with a 23.4 K% versus lefties and tied for 22nd in wRC+ (94) with a 20.1 K% at home this year. Washington was also tied for 26th in wRC+ (88) with a 24.4 K% in the previous 30 days. Finally, the Athletics are -130, and the game’s total is 9.0 runs.

Michael Wacha (SP – KC) at BOS

The other shoe might drop for Michael Wacha tonight, but he’s outkicked his peripherals lately. The veteran righty has recorded a 1.48 ERA, 0.66 WHIP, one win and two quality starts in his previous four starts, totaling 24.1 innings. Unfortunately, Wacha also had a 4.13 xFIP, 4.43 SIERA and 18.7 K% in those turns. The pitcher pickings are slim tonight, though. As a result, holding your nose and hoping Wacha can avoid regression for another night makes sense in GPPs at DraftKings, where Wacha is an affordable option.

Suggested Lineup Stacks

Jonathan Cannon has tallied a 5.64 ERA, 4.49 xFIP, 4.23 SIERA and 1.25 WHIP in his previous four starts. Sure, he’s been a bit unlucky. Yet, Cannon’s ERA estimators weren’t impressive, and his 4.77 ERA, 5.03 xERA, 4.76 xFIP and 4.55 SIERA in 18 appearances (16 starts) this season were also dreadful. The right-handed hurler has also served up a .377 wOBA to 209 lefties and a .319 wOBA to 207 righties in 2025, making Seattle’s hitters of either handedness appealing stacking options tonight.

  • Road (Nationals Park)
  • Game Total/Moneyline: 9.0 Runs/ATH -130

Cade Cavalli hasn’t pitched in the Majors since making his first and only appearance (a start) in 2022. The 26-year-old righty has a putrid 5.35 ERA in 17 starts (one Low-A, one in Double-A and 15 in Triple-A) in the minors this year. Cavalli’s 3.95 xFIP is more palatable, but he has a track record of low strand rates, so I’m unwilling to cut him slack for his 67.1 LOB%. The gap between his ERA and xFIP likely isn’t a fluke, and the Athletics should rough him up tonight.

Core Studs
