The best players in the world play fantasy baseball on NFBC. The most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which features a $1,750 buy-in, a $7,000 league prize and an overall prize of $200,000. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pickups on Sunday night.
I look at the most popular fantasy baseball waiver wire and FAAB pickups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them.

Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups
Samuel Basallo was picked up in 56 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $84 and a minimum bid of $1. Basallo is a top-five prospect who has been fantastic in AAA.
There are questions about Basallo’s ability to stay at catcher, but there is no doubt about his ability to hit. With Adley Rutschman on the injured list (IL), he figures to get a lot of playing time down the stretch and is a top waiver wire pickup in all formats.
Carson Williams was picked up in 52 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $100 and a minimum bid of $1. Williams is a top-20 prospect who has hit for power and speed in the Minors.
Williams is also a fantastic defender, but struggles with consistent contact. The defense will keep him in the lineup, and the power/speed combo could make him very valuable down the stretch.
Parker Messick was picked up in 49 Main Event leagues with a max bid of 23 and a minimum bid of $1. Messick is a top-50 pitching prospect who debuted last week and looked fantastic.
Messick has been great in the Minors, showing great command and an elite change-up. There are the makings of a great pitcher, and he should be scooped up in most formats.

Shane Bieber was picked up in 43 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $278 and a minimum bid of $29. Bieber made his season debut last week and looked great. He is a former top pitcher, but he underwent Tommy John surgery and struggled with setbacks.
Bieber has a ton of upside now that he is healthy, but pitchers often struggle with consistent command and control in their first season back from Tommy John, so there is risk.
Gabriel Moreno was picked up in 43 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $37 and a minimum bid of $1. Moreno was activated off the IL and is going back to his starting job behind the plate in Arizona.
Moreno has never lived up to the hype he had as a prospect or in the 2023 playoffs, but there is a lot of average upside, and he will be an accumulator at a premium position.
Jeremiah Jackson was picked up in 40 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $30 and a minimum bid of $1. Jackson is a journeyman Minor Leaguer who was recently called up.
Jackson was great in the Minors this year, but struggled with contact. There is some power and speed upside, but he needs to make enough contact to unlock his true potential.
Ryan Walker was picked up in 35 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $35 and a minimum bid of $1. Walker got the save on Sunday, and with Randy Rodriguez struggling, he could be in line for more saves.
Walker was an elite closer last season, and if he can get back to those skills, there is an opportunity for him to close more games in San Francisco.
