20 Fantasy Baseball Things to Watch
1. Schedule Notes
- Zero teams play just five games this week.
- The following teams play seven games this week:
- Cleveland Guardians vs KC, vs CHW
- Kansas City Royals at CLE, at PHI
- Los Angeles Angels vs MIN, at SEA
- Seattle Mariners vs STL, vs LAA
- Miami Marlins vs WAS, vs DET
- New York Mets at PHI, vs TEX
- Washington Nationals at MIA, vs PIT
- Colorado Rockies at LAD, at SD
- San Diego Padres vs CIN, vs COL
2. Victor Robles (OF – SEA)
Since returning from the injured list (IL) and suspension, Victor Robles is playing regularly but has only stolen one base. He has five stolen bases in 65 plate appearances, so the speed upside is high.
3. Nationals Hitters
The Marlins are allowing the most stolen bases in baseball this year by a wide margin. The Nationals are coming to town, which makes them a nice streaming opportunity with options like Jacob Young, Luis Garcia Jr. and Daylen Lile.
4. Giants Lineup
The Giants have a few young hitters who have been great recently in Luis Matos and Drew Gilbert. Gilbert is a righty masher and Matos has reverse splits, which gets him in more than just on the weak side of a platoon.
With the Giants attempting to chase down the last playoff spot, we need to see if these youngsters will continue to play regularly.
5. Parker Meadows (OF – DET)
Parker Meadows is back from the IL and has already hit a home run in his first game back. He will likely face righties, but there is power and speed upside, especially with five righties on the docket.
6. Brandon Sproat (SP – NYM)
Brandon Sproat made his Major League debut over the weekend and looked great despite control struggles. He should be in the Mets’ rotation for the rest of the season, but we need to see if he can keep the control in check.
7. Tyler Glasnow (SP – LAD)
Tyler Glasnow was scratched from his last start due to back tightness. He has been good when he has been on the mound this season, but he hasn’t been elite. He has a great matchup this week, but we need to see if he can even get on the mound.
8. Max Muncy (3B – LAD)
Max Muncy is expected to return from the IL on Monday. He has been great since the beginning of June, hitting .321/.463/.670 with 11 home runs in 136 plate appearances. We need to see if he can get hot again for the stretch run.
9. Dodgers Closer Chaos
Tanner Scott has struggled recently, so the Dodgers could be looking to move in a different direction. Blake Treinen or Michael Kopech could be options in the ninth.
10. Cubs Closer Chaos
Daniel Palencia left Sunday’s game with a shoulder injury. We don’t know what his status will be, but if he misses time, Brad Keller or Andrew Kittredge could be next up.
11. White Sox Closer Chaos
The White Sox have been running with a committee all season, but all of a sudden, Jordan Leasure seems to have taken over the closer role. We need to see if this is legit or just a flash in the pan.
12-14. Streaming Options
Tyler Wells (SP – BAL) vs. PIT
Tyler Wells had a good first start and faces a bad Pirates team at home.
Jonah Tong (SP – NYM) vs. TEX
Jonah Tong has looked great since arriving in the Majors and has a nice matchup at home.
Stephen Kolek (SP, RP – KC) at CLE
Stephen Kolek looked good in his last start and is facing a struggling Guardians offense.
15-20. Two-Start Options
Cade Cavalli (SP – WSH) at MIA, vs. PIT
Cade Cavalli has been up and down since making his debut this year, but his stuff is really exciting. He also has two really good matchups this week, so if you are looking for wins and strikeouts, this is a good stream
Will Warren (SP – NYY) vs. DET, at BOS
Will Warren has been up and down this season, but the stuff is really good, and when he has good control of it, he can be dominant.
Warren has two tough matchups this week, so there is some risk, but the Yankees will give him run support, so it’s a high upside gamble.
Jose Quintana (SP – MIL) at TEX, vs. STL
Outside of a blow-up outing versus the Diamondbacks, Jose Quintana has been pretty good recently. He has two decent matchups versus a depleted Rangers offense and a Cardinals team you aren’t afraid of.
Quintana deserves to be an option in a lot of formats this week.
Braxton Ashcraft (SP, RP – PIT) at BAL, at WSH
Braxton Ashcraft has actually been pretty good recently for the Pirates; however, they are starting to limit him as the season winds down.
That means Ashcraft’s already low win probability from being on the Pirates drops even further. These aren’t bad matchups, so you can take the gamble, but it is risky.
Slade Cecconi (SP – CLE) vs. KC, vs. CWS
Slade Cecconi has struggled down the stretch, but the overall profile is promising. He has two great matchups this week, which give him some streaming use as a sneaky wins play.
Adrian Houser (SP – TB) at CWS, at CHC
Adrian Houser’s overall line is great, but he has struggled more in Tampa than he did before the trade. However, he has a great matchup to start the week, and both of these games are away from home, which has been a rough place to pitch this season.
