Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets
All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN leagues.
Bryce Young (CAR) vs. New York Jets (19.9% Rostered)
Fantasy players will hate the thought of starting Young in Week 7. The former Alabama star has averaged only 191.7 passing yards, 1.7 touchdowns, and 13.7 fantasy points per game this season. Yet, he has taken advantage of fantasy-friendly matchups, totaling 328 passing yards, three touchdowns, and 21.3 fantasy points against the Arizona Cardinals earlier this year. More importantly, Young was outstanding last week despite having only 25 pass attempts, completing 68% of his throws for 199 yards, three touchdowns, and 18.5 fantasy points against an awful Dallas Cowboys defense.
Hopefully, the Alabama star can have similar success against the Jets this week. New York’s defense has severely struggled. Last week, Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos offense couldn’t get on track, as the former Oregon star had only one touchdown and 13.4 fantasy points in London. However, New York had surrendered 2.2 passing touchdowns and 20 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first five weeks, the sixth-most in the league. They gave up four passing touchdowns and at least 25.7 fantasy points twice over those five contests.
Aaron Rodgers (PIT) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (13.7% Rostered)
After totaling four touchdowns and 25.7 fantasy points in Week 1, Rodgers struggled heading into the Steelers’ Week 5 bye. The future Hall of Famer averaged 1.3 passing touchdowns and 11.6 fantasy points per game from Week 2 through Week 4, totaling 12.8 or fewer in every contest. However, the veteran was outstanding last week against a talented Cleveland Browns defense, completing 70% of his pass attempts for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and 17.5 fantasy points. More importantly, Rodgers should have no trouble putting up points on Thursday night.
Cincinnati has one of the worst defenses in the NFL. After Joe Flacco had 290 passing yards, one touchdown, and 12.2 fantasy points against the Bengals in Week 1, opposing quarterbacks have averaged 263.2 yards, 2.2 touchdowns, and 19.3 fantasy points per game over the past five weeks, giving up at least two scores in all but one contest. Rodgers is an appealing two-week streaming option for fantasy players. After facing the Bengals, the future Hall of Famer takes on his former team, the Green Bay Packers, in Week 8.
Joe Flacco (CIN) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (4.6% Rostered)
Despite being less than a week into his Bengals tenure, Flacco started in Week 6 and played well for fantasy players. The veteran quarterback completed 64.4% of his pass attempts for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and 18.8 fantasy points, setting season-highs in nearly every category while not having a turnover in a game for the first time this year. He put up solid numbers against a Green Bay Packers defense that held quarterbacks to under 11 fantasy points in two of their four games heading into last week’s matchup.
Furthermore, Flacco has some bulletin board material for Thursday night after Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin questioned the quarterback’s inner division trade last week. More importantly, Pittsburgh’s defense has been far from elite this season. Dillon Gabriel had only 221 passing yards, zero touchdowns, and 8.8 fantasy points against the Steelers last week. However, the Steelers had surrendered 1.8 passing touchdowns and 21.4 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the first five weeks, the fourth-most in the NFL, allowing at least 19.2 fantasy points in all but one outing.
Jacoby Brissett (ARI) vs. Green Bay Packers (0.5% Rostered)
Unfortunately, Kyler Murray missed the Week 6 matchup against the Indianapolis Colts because of a foot injury. While the Cardinals haven’t ruled him out for Sunday’s game, don’t be surprised if Murray misses his second consecutive contest. Arizona has their bye in Week 8, giving the star quarterback plenty of time to heal. Therefore, Brissett will likely make his second straight start on Sunday. Last week, he completed 61.4% of his pass attempts for 320 yards, two touchdowns, and 20.7 fantasy points despite losing Marvin Harrison Jr. to a concussion.
Meanwhile, the Packers were outstanding to start the season, holding quarterbacks to 189 passing yards, one touchdown, and 11.4 fantasy points per game over the first three weeks. Yet, they’ve struggled over their past two matchups, surrendering 269 passing yards, 2.5 touchdowns, and 24.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Last week, Joe Flacco completed 64.4% of his pass attempts for 219 yards, two touchdowns, and 18.8 fantasy points in his Cincinnati Bengals debut despite being in the building for less than a week. Brissett is a solid QB2 option.
