Early Fantasy Football Trade Advice for Week 9
Players to Buy
While the Bengals’ playoff chances took a hit with their loss to the New York Jets, Flacco looks like a potential league winner for fantasy players. The veteran quarterback has been outstanding in his three starts since getting traded, averaging 261.3 passing yards, 2.3 touchdowns, and 23 fantasy points per game, totaling 24.3 or more in back-to-back contests. More importantly, he has a fantasy-friendly playoff schedule, facing the Baltimore Ravens, Miami Dolphins, and Arizona Cardinals from Week 15 through Week 17. It’s time to start planning for the fantasy playoffs.
Unfortunately, Nick Chubb had more rushing attempts than Marks on Sunday (17 vs. 11) for the fifth time this year. However, the rookie was the better fantasy option, totaling 15.1 PPR fantasy points compared to 8.9 for the veteran. More importantly, he has averaged 14 touches for 72.3 scrimmage yards, 0.8 touchdowns, and 14.5 fantasy points per game over the past four contests, totaling 12.5 or more in all but one outing. Marks has become Houston’s No. 1 running back and has top-15 upside for the rest of the season.
Fantasy players will have to buy high on McConkey. Yet, he is the Chargers’ wide receiver fantasy players want on their team. McConkey has been outstanding after a slow start, averaging 7.3 receptions on 11.3 targets for 85 receiving yards, 0.7 touchdowns, and 19.8 PPR fantasy points per game over the past three weeks, totaling at least 10 targets and 20.8 fantasy points in all but one contest. Meanwhile, Quentin Johnston has slipped back into mediocrity, totaling six receptions and 17.9 fantasy points over his past three games.
Head coach Kevin Stefanski told the media after Sunday’s loss that Dillon Gabriel would remain the starting quarterback after the Week 9 bye. That’s excellent news for Fannin. The rookie has led the Browns in targets with Gabriel starting, averaging 6.8 per game, totaling eight or more in two of the past three contests. More importantly, Fannin has averaged 13.1 PPR fantasy points per game with Gabriel starting, scoring 11.3 or more in all but one outing. Furthermore, don’t be surprised if David Njoku gets traded before next Tuesday’s deadline.
Players to Sell
Last week, Tagovailoa was at risk of getting benched after throwing three interceptions in back-to-back games. However, the former Alabama star bounced back on Sunday against a talented Atlanta Falcons pass defense, completing 76.9% of his pass attempts for 205 yards, four touchdowns, and 24.2 fantasy points, setting season-highs in scores and fantasy points. Yet, fantasy players shouldn’t expect the good version of Tagovailoa to stick around, as he has been awful for most of the year. Fantasy players should love being able to turn him into Joe Flacco.
New York finally got a win this season. Hall was outstanding, totaling 147 scrimmage yards, two rushing touchdowns, a passing score, and 32.9 PPR fantasy points. However, he likely won’t have a better fantasy performance this year, making him a sell-high candidate. Furthermore, the Jets were without Garrett Wilson, leading to more work for Hall. More importantly, Isaiah Davis played well, totaling 12 touches for 109 scrimmage yards and 17.9 fantasy points. Don’t be surprised if Hall gets moved before the trade deadline, possibly to a worse fantasy situation.
Houston Texans Wide Receivers
The Texans were without Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring) for Sunday’s win over the San Francisco 49ers. Xavier Hutchinson (17.9 PPR fantasy points), Jayden Higgins (13.4), and Jaylin Noel (11.3) all played well. However, none of the three young pass catchers had any meaningful fantasy impact before Sunday’s game, averaging a combined 15.1 fantasy points per contest. Despite their performance against the 49ers, Houston’s passing attack is still a mess. Sell high on every Texans pass catcher besides Collins before next week’s matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Gadsden could be replacing Quentin Johnston as the Chargers’ third option in the passing game. He has averaged 6.3 receptions on 7.3 targets for 103 receiving yards, 0.7 touchdowns, and 20 PPR fantasy points per game over the past three weeks. However, Gadsden had only five targets last week, his lowest total since Week 5. More importantly, after seeing four targets in the first quarter, he only had one target the rest of the game. While fantasy players don’t need to panic sell Gadsden, they should explore sell-high trade options.
