Smash Spots

Taj Bradley (SP – MIN) vs. CIN

Taj Bradley is off to a terrific start, fresh off a dominant outing against the Tigers, where he allowed one earned run in 6.1 innings with 10 strikeouts. You have to love the 22:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Up next is an exploitable matchup at home against the Reds.

Kyle Harrison (SP – MIL) @ MIA

Kyle Harrison has pitched a pair of quality outings for the Brewers, including 14 strikeouts in only 10.1 innings. This looks like the latest Brewers pitching success story. It’s an organization renowned for getting the most out of its pitchers. Up next is a good matchup against the Marlins.

Bubba Chandler (SP – PIT) vs. TBR

The only reason why Bubba Chandler isn’t higher on this list is that he’s shown poor command so far, issuing 10 walks in his first two outings. But the stuff is electric, so if he can find his command, look out. A home start versus the Rays looks appealing.

Risky Starts

Logan Webb (SP – SFG) @ WSH

Logan Webb bounced back with seven strong innings against the Mets in his last outing, but facing the Nationals on the road is more daunting than it looks on paper. That’s a hitter’s park with a pesky lineup.

Shota Imanaga (SP – CHC) @ PHI

Shota Imanaga dominated the Pirates last Friday, but that was a home start with the wind blowing in. Heading to Philadelphia to take on an imposing Phillies’ lineup could be a different story.

Sonny Gray (SP – BOS) @ MIN

Sonny Gray has been effective for the Red Sox so far, but he hasn’t generated many whiffs. His swinging-strike rate is around 6.5% right now. Last year, it was at 12.1%. The Twins have been pesky at the plate so far, so it’s not an easy matchup.

Two-Start Pitchers

MacKenzie Gore (SP – WSH) @ ATH, @ SEA

MacKenzie Gore has been dominant for the Rangers, racking up nine strikeouts in each of his last two starts. We could see something similar against the A’s and the Mariners, who are two strikeout-prone teams.

Gavin Williams (SP – CLE) @ STL, vs. BAL

Gavin Williams followed up a dominant start against the Dodgers with only one run and one hit against the Royals. Next up is a two-step against the Cardinals and the Orioles, so fire him up while he’s rolling.

Joey Cantillo (S – CLE) @ STL, vs. BAL

Joey Cantillo has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his first three starts. He showed a high upside in his last outing against the Royals, racking up nine strikeouts in only 5.2 innings.
