Closer News & Notes

  • Mason Miller continues to lead the way in saves with 10 on the season. He did allow his first earned runs of the season, but they came in a non-save situation.
  • Lucas Erceg has taken hold of the closer role in Kansas City with eight saves on the season. Carlos Estevez is nearing the start of a rehab assignment, making this a situation to monitor once activated.
  • Raisel Iglesias is on track to be activated by the Braves next week. He should return to his closer role.
  • The Blue Jays moved to a committee approach at closer following Jeff Hoffman‘s struggles, and it now appears that Louis Varland has fully taken over the role. He has posted a 0.53 ERA over 17 innings with four saves.
  • The struggles for Kenley Jansen have continued with blown saves across his past two appearances. Kyle Finnegan registered the last save chance for Detroit. This will be a bullpen to monitor next time the Tigers are leading by three runs or fewer in the ninth inning.
  • Ryan Helsley was placed on the injured list (IL) with right elbow inflammation. That’s a big loss to the Orioles’ bullpen.
  • Pete Fairbanks was placed on the IL with nerve irritation. The Marlins’ bullpen becomes much tougher to trust.
