Fantasy Baseball 10 Burning Questions
1. How good is Bryce Miller?
It’s time to consider Bryce Miller as an ace. Coming into Thursday’s action, he had put up a 2.70 SIERA and 30.5% strikeout rate with elite stuff+ and location+ metrics. His velocity is up 1.3 miles per hour (MPH) to 96.5 MPH. You can make the case that Miller is the Mariners’ best pitcher right now.
2. Who is a good buy-low pitcher right now?
I recommend buying low on Freddy Peralta. He’s coming off a blowup start against the Phillies, where he gave up 10 earned runs. But he has a long track record and is playing in a contract year. He’s looking for that payday, so I expect him to get back on track sooner rather than later.
3. Who will trade for Sonny Gray?
The Red Sox are in the middle of a lost season, so we’re likely to see a fire sale from them at the trade deadline. Sonny Gray has been mentioned in trade rumors. He could get dealt back to the National League. A reunion with the Cardinals makes a lot of sense. They’ve smashed expectations and are currently in contention. They could use another arm.
4. Who will trade for Jarren Duran?
Jarren Duran is another Red Sox player who could be on the move at the trade deadline. One team that makes a lot of sense is the Padres. They can definitely use another bat in that lineup, as their offense has been rather lethargic this season. Duran could be the boost that they need.
5. When is Kaelen Culpepper getting called up?
Kaelen Culepper continues to perform well in Triple-A, but it’s clear the Twins are taking a patient approach with him. At this rate, we shouldn’t expect him up until around August. When Culpepper finally gets the call, he’ll be an appealing option who can pitch in some power and speed at middle infield.
6. Who will trade for Willy Adames?
With the Giants at 33-46, there’s a chance they can flip some of their veteran players to replenish their farm system. How about a Willy Adames reunion in Milwaukee? The Brewers are once again one of the best teams in the National League. They’ll be looking for a better showing versus the Dodgers this time. Adames could bring some power that they need.
7. When is Edwin Diaz coming back?
Edwin Diaz is getting closer to returning to the mound. He just recently ramped up his throwing progression. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him back with the Dodgers by the All-Star break. Once he returns, we can temper expectations since it’s an elbow injury, but there’s upside that he’ll get back to being one of the best closers in baseball.
8. How good is Jac Caglianone?
Jac Caglianone is finally crushing MLB pitching the way we expected him to, slashing .354/.433/.734 in June. He’s been on a power binge lately. This is why I was so high on Caglianone coming into the season. He’s got superstar tools. There’s a chance Caglianone is fully breaking out, and it’s more than just a hot streak.
9. Is Paul Goldschmidt back?
Paul Goldschmidt has been huge for the Yankees in Aaron Judge‘s absence, slashing .297/.355/.568 with 14 home runs in 211 plate appearances this season. His barrel rate is up to 12%. Having Goldschmidt return to form makes the Yankees’ lineup that much stronger when Judge comes back. Goldschmidt looks like a viable corner infielder in all formats going forward.
10. Has Jasson Dominguez finally arrived?
Jasson Dominguez hasn’t arrived yet, but he’s been quietly productive in June, putting up a .500 slugging rate with two home runs and four stolen bases. Now that he has regular playing time due to injuries on the Yankees, there’s an opportunity for him to show what he can do. I love the upside here.
