You should be grinding fantasy baseball two-start pitchers to give you an advantage over your competition.
Each week, I will be giving you a breakdown of the two-start options for your fantasy leagues, broken up into the following tiers:
- Must Start: Pitchers you have to start because of their talent and/or matchups.
- Should Start: Pitchers that are rostered in most formats and probably should be in your lineup.
- Here We Go: Pitchers that you are probably starting in most formats, but have some level of risk to them.
- Feeling Lucky: Pitchers that are risky, but viable in deeper formats.
- Desperate Measures: Pitchers you shouldn’t use unless you have no other choice.

Fantasy Baseball Two-Start Pitchers: Week 20
Let’s explore this week’s fantasy baseball two-start pitchers, ranging from must-start options to those you should probably avoid.
Must Start
- Ranger Suarez (SP – BOS) vs. ARI, vs. SF
- Nick Martinez (SP – TBR) vs. BAL, at BAL
- Bryce Miller (SP – SEA) at MIL, vs. CHC
- Nolan McLean (SP – NYM) vs. SDP, at CWS
- Cristopher Sanchez (SP – PHI) vs. MIA, vs. STL
Should Start
Framber Valdez (SP – DET) at PIT, at KCR
Framber Valdez has been up and down this season, with a 4.26 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 133 innings. However, he has great matchups this week, facing two teams that struggle against left-handed pitching. Unless you are protecting your WHIP, you are using him this week.
Jose Soriano (SP – TOR) at TBR, at NYY
Jose Soriano was extremely hot to start the season, but then struggled in May and June. However, he has bounced back since the All-Star break, with a 1.59 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 22.2 innings.
Soriano has a tough matchup at Tampa Bay but then faces a Yankees team that has struggled offensively since losing Aaron Judge.
Foster Griffin (SP, RP – CLE) vs. SFG, at COL
Foster Griffin has struggled a bit since being traded to Cleveland, but he was great prior to that, and he has great matchups versus offenses that don’t scare you. You are using him in most formats.
Shota Imanaga (SP – CHC) vs. CWS, at SEA
Shota Imanaga struggled in May. However, over his last 11 starts, he has posted a 2.49 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched.
Imanaga is facing a tough White Sox team to start the week, but finishes with a great matchup against the worst team in baseball against lefties in the Mariners.
Here We Go
Brandon Young (SP – BAL) at TBR, vs. TBR
Brandon Young has been fantastic since his call-up, with a 3.33 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 113.2 innings. He has two tough matchups against a good Rays team, first in their park and then at home, but he has been too good not to use.
Shane Baz (SP – BAL) vs. NYY, TBR
Shane Baz has been up and down all season, with a 4.00 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 139.1 innings. He has a nice matchup to start the week and a tough one to end it, but he is a high-risk play.
Michael Wacha (SP – KCR) vs. ATH, vs. DET
Michael Wacha doesn’t have much upside in wins or strikeouts, but he does give great ratios. He has two good matchups versus an A’s team that struggles on the road and a mediocre Tigers offense.
Andre Pallante (SP – STL) at CIN, at PHI
Andre Pallante doesn’t have great stuff, but he has a full arsenal and has had great command and control this season. He has two good matchups this week, but they are in pitcher-unfriendly parks, which adds some risk.
Kyle Leahy (SP – STL) at CIN, at PHI
Kyle Leahy has quietly been great this season, with a 3.38 ERA and 105 strikeouts across 117.1 innings. However, his underlying numbers are scary. He has a 5.06 xERA and a 92 stuff+. These are good matchups, but he will regress at some point.
Feeling Lucky
Will Warren at BAL, vs. TOR
Will Warren has been up and down this season, and while he has decent matchups this week, with Carlos Rodon coming back soon, there is a chance he loses his rotation spot.
Cristian Javier (SP – HOU) vs. LAA, vs. ATH
Cristian Javier has not been very good this season, but he has nice matchups versus a bad Angels team and a Nationals team that is missing their best bat and traded away one of their better ones at the deadline.
Cal Quantrill (SP, RP – TEX) vs. WSH, vs. LAA
Ca Quantrill is a soft-tossing, control artist with very little upside, but he has great matchups and has pitched well lately, making him an interesting win-chasing play this week.

- Jack Perkins (SP, RP – ATH) at KCR, at HOU
- George Klassen (SP – LAA) at HOU, at TEX
- Martin Perez (SP – ATL) at MIN, at MIL
- Tyler Mahle (SP – ATL) at MIN, at MIL
- Janson Junk (SP, RP – MIA) at PHI, vs. WSH
- Jackson Kent (SP – WSH) at TEX, at MIA
- Rhett Lowder (SP – CIN) vs. STL, at ARI
- Carmen Mlodzinski (SP, RP – PIT) vs. DET, at LAD
- Mitch Bratt (SP – ARI) at BOS, vs. CIN
- Tomoyuki Sugano (SP – COL) vs. LAD, vs. CLE
