Fantasy Impact:
Of particular note for fantasy owners in deeper leagues is the fact that Marcus Semien now has a position and what appears to be a starting role. Semien broke camp with the White Sox last season and played some third base and second base, while performing at a below-average offensive rate. While strikeouts have been an issue for Semien during his brief time in the majors, his minor league performance paints a picture of a patient hitter with knowledge of the strike zone. Semien has spent parts of two seasons in AAA. During this time Semien has kept his strikeout rate below 17.0%, while posting walk-rates between 9.9% & 14.5%. During the 2013 season while playing in AA, Semien walked 17.4% of the time, while only striking out 13.7% of the time. While the move from U.S. Cellular Field to the O.co Coliseum will hurt Semien's future power potential, the opportunity for extra base-hits and run production remain high with his minor league track record.
