Charlie Morton could see more time between starts in the second half

All-Star starting pitcher Charlie Morton may begin getting more time between starts in the second half as the Rays begin to monitor his workload. Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash said recently, “We’re going to have to sit and talk with him and see what we can do better. “I don’t think we want him to be throwing 220 innings before the potential postseason.’’ Morton is already at 112 2/3 innings on the season. Fantasy Impact:

Morton had an excellent first half for the Rays, striking out 142 batters over 112 2/3 innings while pitching to a 2.32 ERA and 1.03 WHIP. But the Rays know that any postseason run is going to require a healthy Morton, who is coming off of a career-high 167 innings pitched last season, and they don't want to risk overworking him.
