Lucas Giolito throwing 75-pitch bullpen sessions

by David Leisering | Sat, Apr 11th 6:26pm EDT

Lucas Giolito still remains on the free agent market, but has been throwing 75-pitch bullpen sessions in Florida to remain in game shape. (MLB Trade Rumors on X)

Fantasy Impact:

Giolito made 26 starts for the Red Sox last season and went 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. However, he surprisingly remains unsigned despite several teams dealing with injury issues to their pitching staffs. Giolito has stated that the throwing sessions have kept him in game shape and he wouldn't need much of a tune-up to get ready. It's oddly similar to Toronto's signing of Patrick Corbin, who signed last Friday and had one outing at Single-A before making his debut and throwing 85 pitches for the Blue Jays exactly one week later. One team, on paper, that would make sense would be the Houston Astros. They have lost Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier already and their prized Japanese free agent signing, Tatsuya Imai, has not lived up to the hype and is now dealing with a tired arm and undergoing further testing. Giolito is still only 31 years old and should have plenty left in the tank to help some team.
