Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes did not show up to the ballpark on Sunday and has not been in contact with the team, general manager Brodie Van Wagenen announced shortly after the team's matchup against the Braves started. The team released this official statement regarding his absence: "As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today. He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence. Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful." (Anthony DiComo on Twitter)
Through eight games, Cespedes has served as the team's primary designated hitter and is batting .161 with two home runs. It is not yet clear what this means for this availability or status with the team going forward, so monitor his status for updates.
