James Karinchak threw a scoreless ninth inning to save a 4-1 win over the Royals on Tuesday. Karinchak struck out two and did not allow a base runner.

Karinchak got the save chance with regular closer Emmanuel Clase getting the night off. Karinchak notched an impressive five swinging strikes on just 12 pitches in the frame. The set-up man now has a 1-0 record, 1.04 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, one save, four holds, and 43 strikeouts in 26 innings of work. He's worth a roster spot in leagues that have saves+holds as a stat category.
