The New York Mets have claimed relief pitcher Dennis Santana off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. (MLB.com)
It's likely no coincidence that Santana was added to the fold just after closer Edwin Diaz suffered a devastating knee injury on March 15 at the World Baseball Classic. The club is also dealing with spring injuries to relievers Brooks Raley, Bryce Montes de Oca, and Sam Coonrod. The 26-year-old tossed a 5.22 ERA in 63 outings with Texas last season but also turned in a 3.35 FIP, 0.31 HR/9, and 4.06 SIERA in that time. The right-hander has made 118 appearances over the last 26 seasons and seemingly has a solid amount of upside at just 26 years of age.
