The Minnesota Twins have placed outfielder Gilberto Celestino on the 10-day injured list with a thumb injury. (MLB.com)

The move is merely a formality as Celestino suffered a ruptured UCL ligament in his left thumb this spring and was originally given a six-to-eight-week timeline for a return following surgery. The 24-year-old scuffled in 122 games with the Twins last season, hitting just .238 with two homers, four steals, and a .615 OPS in that time. He is likely headed for some more Triple-A seasoning upon his return from the IL.
