Justin Turner nearing one-year deal with Cubs

Justin Turner is close to finalizing a one-year contract with the Cubs, according to Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. The 40-year-old veteran is expected to have the deal completed this week, giving him time to prepare for Opening Day. Turner appeared in 139 games last season between the Blue Jays and Mariners, slashing .259/.354/.383 with 11 home runs and 55 RBI.

Fantasy Impact:

Turner’s role with the Cubs will likely be fluid, as he could start at third base early in the season while prospect Matt Shaw (oblique) recovers. Once Shaw is ready, Turner may shift into a part-time role, potentially platooning at first base with Michael Busch. While his power has declined, Turner’s on-base skills still hold value in deeper leagues, particularly for managers needing late-round batting average stability.
