Braden Shewmake has been designated for assignment by the New York Yankees. The move was made to open a spot for Oswaldo Bido, whom they claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels. (Matthew Nethercott on X)
Fantasy Impact:
Shewmake, the 21st overall pick in the 2019 MLB Draft, has not seen much success at the major league level. The utility infielder made his debut with Atlanta in 2023 and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in two games. He got more of an opportunity with the White Sox in 2024, but slashed .125/.134/.203 in 67 plate appearances. He spent last year with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' organization and batted .244 with four home runs and 15 stolen bases in 85 games. Once a decent prospect, Shewmake is now 28 and will look to latch on somewhere else to try to kickstart his career.
