Mariners general manager Jerry DiPito said that Emerson will get spring training reps at third base and mentioned his versatility to play second base and shortstop, as well. The 20-year-old likely remains a long shot to break camp with the club as he's played just six games above Double-A and began last season in High-A ball, alongside the club's acquisition of utility man Brendan Donovan from the Cardinals.
