Merrill Kelly (back) to make spring debut Friday

Mid-back tightness that surfaced in late February has left Kelly behind schedule, and the Diamondbacks have ruled him out for Opening Day. He'll make his Cactus League debut Friday against the Royals. (Alex Weiner)

Kelly has a good chance to avoid the injured list and is in contention to make a start during the second series of the season.
