Arizona Diamondbacks

NL West

Arizona Diamondbacks LF David Peralta went 2-for-4 at the plate on Monday, hitting two RBI singles, and striking out once in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: Peralta is certainly not the most attractive option in fantasy as he maintains average numbers in both his BA with a .232 and his OPS with a .772. Putting those two numbers aside though the Arizona outfielder contributes enough offence to justify being rostered as he has seven home runs on the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks 2B Ketel Marte went 2-for-4 at the plate on Monday, hitting a 2-run RBI double, walking once, and striking out once in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: Everything seemed to click for the Diamondbacks on Monday night as they managed to roll over the Royals despite instantly being down four runs in the first inning due to terrible pitching by their starter. The Diamondbacks 2B is batting .245 on the season and has 2 home runs and 14 RBI and managers should expect those numbers to rise as the season goes along as they are well below his regular season average.

Arizona Diamondbacks 1B Christian Walker went 1-for-4 at the plate on Monday, hitting a solo homer in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: The Diamondbacks first basemen is batting a below average .200 with a rather adequate OPS of .765 which is mostly due to his home run statistics. Walker has 11 home runs on the season and he should be rostered or he should remain rostered for that reason alone despite having rather subpar numbers otherwise.

Arizona Diamondbacks RF Pavin Smith went 1-for-3 at the plate on Monday, hitting a 2-run homer, walking twice, and striking out once in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: Smith now has five home runs on the year which pushes him into the realm of a mid tier fantasy player and he can be rostered if managers are in a pinch. The Arizona outfielder is batting .236 on the season and has an OPS of .713.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zach Davies pitched 3 2/3 innings on Monday, striking out two, walking two, and allowing eight hits for four earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: Davies was horrendous on Monday as he was pulled before he could even make it through the fourth inning having already thrown 84 pitches. The Diamondbacks starting pitcher didn't lack control of the zone as 51 of his 84 pitches were for strikes, it was more of an issue of hard hit contact as three of the four hits he gave up were all home runs and they all came in the first inning. For now he should not be on any roster no matter the league depth.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP J.B. Wendelken pitched one inning on Monday, allowing two hits for zero earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 9-5 win over the Royals.

Fantasy Impact: Wendelken should not be rostered as he does not see high leverage situations enough as well as the fact that he has a higher ERA of 5.65. The Arizona reliever just managed to be in the right place at the right time on Monday as the Diamondbacks rallied ahead and put the Royals far enough behind just an inning after the reliever was pulled from the game which earned him his first win of the season.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Ian Kennedy pitched part of the eighth inning on Sunday, allowing three hits for two earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 loss to the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Kennedy came into the eighth with a one run lead and saw that lead evaporate as he gave up two home runs which gave him his third loss of the season. The Diamondbacks reliever carries a record of 3-3 on the season and an ERA of 3.93 which makes him rather unappealing but somewhat serviceable for fantasy rosters.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Merrill Kelly pitched five innings on Sunday, striking out two, walking three, and allowing five hits for three earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 5-4 loss to the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Kelly has been subpar so far this season as both his record and his ERA suggests as he sits at 3-2 on the season with a 3.49 ERA. The Diamondbacks starting pitcher has a WHIP of 1.31 and 42 strikeouts in nine starts this season which makes him serviceable in fantasy but he is no set and forget pitcher by any means.

Arizona Diamondbacks C Daulton Varsho went 3-for-5 at the plate on Saturday, hitting two singles and a double, and striking out twice in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Varsho helped complete the comeback for the Diamondbacks twice as he tied the game in the eighth inning with an RBI single before hitting a 3-run RBI double in the 10th inning to ultimately propel the team to victory. The Diamondbacks catcher is batting .262 on the season and has 20 RBI after Saturday's game.

Arizona Diamondbacks RF Jake McCarthy went 3-for-4 at the plate on Saturday, hitting two singles, an RBI double, walking once, and striking out once in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: McCarthy followed up his multi hit performance on Friday with another such performance on Saturday. The outfielder is batting .235 on the season with an OPS of .650 and just one home run through 15 games played.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Mark Melancon pitched the 10th inning on Saturday, striking out two, and allowing two hits for one earned run in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Melancon came in for the 10th inning after a late comeback by the Diamondbacks to tie the game and force extra innings, however when the relief pitcher came in he nearly blew another game as he allowed two runs which evaporated the three run lead. The Diamondbacks reliever has a ERA of 7.53 which is due to come down so long as he is able to put up more strong performances throughout the season. The main concern for managers is if the elite relief pitching of the 37 year olds career is gone, as he has already lost five games this season and nearly lost his sixth on Saturday, despite having a three run lead.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Madison Bumgarner pitched seven innings on Saturday, striking out seven, and allowing five hits for four earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: On Saturday it looked like Bumgarner might take his third loss as he put the team in a three run hole, but alas he was saved by his team and some late run support as he was marked with a no-decision. The Diamondbacks starting pitcher has an ERA of 2.76 despite allowing four runs on Saturday and carries a record of 2-2 on the season, which all points to him being a adequate pitcher to be streamed on a weekly basis.

Josh Rojas left Saturday's game after getting hit by a pitch on his left hand during his first at-bat. The Diamondbacks are calling it a left hand contusion. (Source: Nick Piecoro on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It's been a rough start for Rojas, who already missed the first few weeks of the season due to an oblique strain. The timing is rough also, as he was coming off a 3-HR game. It sounds like the injury isn't too serious so consider him day-to-day for now. Hopefully, he'll be able to avoid another trip to the IL.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Humberto Castellanos pitched 5 1/3 innings on Friday, striking out five, walking one, and allowing five hits for three earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 10-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Castellanos earned his third win of the season on Friday as the Diamondbacks offence provided tons of run support in a dominant win. The starting pitcher is still a risky start in fantasy as he carries an ERA of 4.29 and a WHIP of 1.18 with 26 strikeouts through 35.2 innings pitched which is rather horrible for a starting pitcher.

Arizona Diamondbacks CF Alek Thomas went 2-for-4 at the plate on Friday, hitting a solo homer along with a double, as well as striking out once in the Diamondbacks' 10-6 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: Thomas has been terrific in his first season in the MLB as he has three home runs in 13 games played this season. The Diamondbacks prized rookie is currently batting a strong .333 and has a above league average of .992.

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Zac Gallen pitched five innings on Thursday, striking out four, walking three, and allowing two hits for one earned run in the Diamondbacks' 3-1 win over the Cubs.

Fantasy Impact: The Diamondbacks starting pitcher managed to keep his record clean on Thursday as he moves to 3-0 on the season with the win. Gallen has a fantastic ERA of 1.14 and a phenomenal WHIP of 0.71 which alone are enough to cement him in the rankings as a plug and play pitcher in fantasy.

Arizona Diamondbacks SS Geraldo Perdomo went 1-for-4 at the plate on Wednesday, hitting a single, and grounding out for a RBI in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Fantasy Impact: Perdomo is to be avoided on fantasy even though he does have an mediocre batting average as he has only four RBI on the year and zero home runs. The Diamondbacks shortstop has a bottom tier OPS of .606 which again points to the reasoning that he should not be rostered at the moment.

Arizona Diamondbacks CF Jordan Luplow went 1-for-4 at the plate on Tuesday, hitting a first inning bomb in the Diamondbacks' 12-3 loss to the Dodgers.

Fantasy Impact: Luplow is batting below .200 on the season which makes him undesirable from that standpoint, but can be used in DFS as he has five home runs so far this season. The outfielder has an OPS of .750 which is adequate meaning he gets on base and most of his offensive numbers are close to average other than his batting average.

Category: Game Recaps

Arizona Diamondbacks SP Tyler GIlbert pitched 5 2/3 innings on Tuesday, striking out six, walking two, and allowing seven hits for six earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 Game 1 loss to the Dodgers.

Fantasy Impact: Gilbert took his second loss of the season on Tuesday and now has a record of 0-2 and will continue into his next start looking for his first win. The starting pitcher has an ERA of 5.02 and is near the backend of the Arizona rotation which makes him unappealing for a fantasy roster spot at the moment.

Category: Game Recaps

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Kyle Nelson pitched one inning on Monday, striking out two, and allowing one hit for zero earned runs in the Diamondbacks' 4-3 win over the Marlins.

Fantasy Impact: Nelson has appeared in 11 games so far this season and has an ERA of 1.64 with a WHIP of 0.64. Monday's game was the first win for Nelson and he is not worth a look in fantasy due to not having many opportunities for wins or saves as he has zero saves this season.
