Marcelo Mayer confirmed as Red Sox starting second baseman

Manager Alex Cora announced Saturday that Mayer will open the season as Boston's primary second baseman, a decision that follows Caleb Durbin being named the starter at third base and Nick Sogard's option to Triple-A Worcester.
