Michael Soroka strikes out 10 in season debut Monday

by David Leisering | Diamondbacks Correspondent | Tue, Mar 31st 6:33am EDT

Michael Soroka (1-0) got the win on Monday as he pitched five scoreless innings in his Diamondbacks debut. He allowed just four hits while walking one and striking out 10 as Arizona defeated the Tigers, 9-6, on Monday.

Fantasy Impact:

Soroka dazzled in his first start of the year, retiring the final eight batters he faced and tossing an immaculate inning in his fifth and final frame. Soroka's once-promising career was decimated by injuries as he did not pitch in the majors in 2021, 2022, and most of 2023. However, he has battled and has averaged more than a strikeout per inning in each of the last two seasons. Soroka threw 89 pitches on Monday and was rolling at the time of his departure, but the Diamondbacks will likely proceed with caution as the righthander has not thrown more than 100 innings in a season since 2019. Soroka's start on Monday was certainly intriguing for fantasy owners. You may want to keep an eye on him in his next couple of starts to see if he found his way back to pre-injury form.
