Bryan Baker locks down save despite earned run

by Nicholas Rodriguez | Rays Correspondent | Tue, Apr 7th 4:53am EDT

Bryan Baker struck out two batters while allowing one earned run on one hit over one inning to earn the save in Monday's 6-4 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Impact:

Baker earned his first save of the year, joining Kevin Kelly as the other Tampa Bay Rays pitcher with a save. While the two are expected to handle most save opportunities in the club’s closer-by-committee approach, Baker has been clearly more dominant, allowing just one earned run over four innings with a 13.5 K/9, compared to Kelly’s five earned runs over 3.2 innings with a 9.8 K/9. If fantasy managers are in desperate need of a closer, Baker is the preferred pickup of the two, though there are plenty of other options with more consistent roles available.
