Paul Skenes takes no-hitter into sixth on Tuesday

by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Tue, Apr 7th 11:35pm EDT

Paul Skenes (2-1) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning on Tuesday en route to his second consecutive victory as the Pirates defeated the Padres, 7-1. Skenes allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out six in 6.1 innings.

Fantasy Impact:

It didn't take long for Paul Skenes to become Paul Skenes again. In his best start of the young season on Tuesday, Skenes had a no-hitter through five-and-a-third innings before Fernando Tatis broke it up with a one-out single in the sixth. He was promptly erased on an inning-ending double play. However, Skenes' shutout bid - and his day - ended in the top of the seventh on a one-out home run by Xander Bogaerts. Skenes allowed only a walk and a hit batter through the first five innings. In two starts after his Opening Day disaster, Skenes has gone 2-0, allowing only five hits in 11.1 innings. He'll take a 5.25 ERA into his next outing, which is lined up for Monday against the Nationals.
