Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) is aiming to throw 40 pitches in his first rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Friday, according to manager Aaron Boone. (Bryan Hoch on Twitter)

While Cole is expected to need several rehab starts before MLB activation, a 40-pitch goal in his first rehab outing suggests that he could be ready closer to late May than early June.
