Yankees right-hander Gerrit Cole (elbow) is aiming to throw 40 pitches in his first rehab start for Double-A Somerset on Friday, according to manager Aaron Boone. (Bryan Hoch on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

While Cole is expected to need several rehab starts before MLB activation, a 40-pitch goal in his first rehab outing suggests that he could be ready closer to late May than early June. The Yankees are desperate for rotation reinforcements with both Carlos Rodon and Clarke Schmidt also sidelined to begin the season.
