Jesse Scholtens gives up five runs in start Monday

by Nicholas Rodriguez | Rays Correspondent | Tue, Apr 21st 3:59am EDT

Jesse Scholtens allowed five earned runs on seven hits and no walks while striking out six batters over 5.2 innings in Monday's 6-1 loss against the Cincinnati Reds.

Fantasy Impact:

Scholtens, who had been working as a bulk reliever to begin the season, drew the start on Monday and struggled early, surrendering a two-run homer to Sal Stewart in the first inning. He bounced back with a 1-2-3 second inning, but allowed another run in the third and two more in the sixth, before being pulled. He reached 95 pitches in the outing, showing he is fully stretched out. After opening the season with 9.2 scoreless innings, his ERA rose to 2.93 following Monday’s start. It remains unclear when his next outing will come, and whether it will be as a starter or bulk reliever.
