Paul Skenes suffered his second loss of the season after allowing five runs - four earned - on eight hits in five innings. The Cardinals went on to defeat the Pirates, 10-5, on Thursday.
Fantasy Impact:
Skenes struck out a season-high nine batters and did not issue a walk in his five innings. But, the Cardinals jumped on the righthander with a pair of home runs in the first inning - a solo homer by rookie JJ Wetherholt and a two-run shot by Jordan Walker. The Cardinals would add another run in the third and one more in the fifth to end Skenes' day. He had allowed three earned runs in five April starts before Thursday. Skenes dropped to 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA and a 39:7 K:BB ratio through 34 innings this season. He's currently lined up to face the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
