Paul Skenes dominates Arizona in victory Wednesday
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Thu, May 7th 12:59am EDT
Paul Skenes allowed two hits in eight shutout innings on Wednesday as he outdueled Michael Soroka and pitched the Pirates to a 1-0 win over Arizona. He did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
Fantasy Impact:
It was another vintage Skenes performance on Wednesday as he retired the first 14 batters he faced before allowing back-to-back singles by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Nolan Arenado with outs in the fifth. Those were the only baserunners he would allow in eight innings. Over his last seven starts, Skenes is 5-1 with a 1.31 ERA, a 0.58 WHIP, and a 45:5 K:BB ratio. Even more impressive, Skenes has not issued a free pass in his last four starts and has a 28:0 K:BB ratio in 24 innings during the stretch. He is lined up for a home start against the Rockies on Tuesday in his next outing.
