Merrill Kelly throws first career complete game Friday
by David Leisering | Diamondbacks Correspondent | Sat, May 16th 2:40pm EDT
Merrill Kelly went the distance on Friday, allowing a run on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts as the Diamondbacks defeated the Rockies, 9-1.
Fantasy Impact:
Kelly needed exactly 100 pitches on Friday to throw his first career complete game in his 178th career start. He allowed only a first inning home run to Hunter Goodman, but gave up only three hits after that. He became just the fourth starter this season to throw a complete game, joining Miami's Sandy Alcantara, Seattle's George Kirby, and Minnesota's Bailey Ober. After a miserable three-game stretch where he allowed 19 runs in 13.2 innings, Kelly has righted the ship and has given up just two runs on seven hits over his last two starts - spanning 16 innings. The righthander still has an inflated 5.91 ERA in this season, but he appears to be locked in at the moment. He's lined up to face the Giants on Wednesday.
