Paul Skenes suffers third loss of season Sunday
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, May 17th 10:34pm EDT
Paul Skenes was charged with five runs on five hits in five-plus innings on Sunday as the Pirates suffered a 6-0 loss to Philadelphia.
Fantasy Impact:
Skenes allowed just one hit - a double by Alec Bohm with two outs in the fourth - while recording five strikeouts through the first four innings. However, the Pirates' ace was tagged for five runs on four hits and a walk over the final nine batters he faced to suffer his third loss of the season. His walk to Adolis Garcia to start the fifth was his first since a walk to Washington's James Wood on April 13, snapping a string of 39.1 straight innings without issuing a free pass. In day games this season, Skenes dropped to 1-3 with a 6.41 ERA allowing 14 runs on 23 hits in 19.2 innings. On the flip side, he is 5-0 with a 0.51 ERA in night games, allowing two runs on eight hits with a 36:3 K:BB ratio in 35.1 innings. Skenes is scheduled to get the ball on Saturday afternoon in Toronto.
