Bubba Chandler done in by command issues again Saturday
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, May 17th 10:06am EDT
Bubba Chandler allowed five runs - four earned - on three hits, walked four, and struck out two in just three innings during Saturday's loss to the Phillies.
Fantasy Impact:
Command issues killed the young righthander again on Saturday as three of the four batters he walked came in to score. Philadelphia jumped out to a 3-0 lead three batters in on a single, a walk, and a three-run home run by Bryce Harper. Then, in the second, Chandler walked J.T. Realmuto with one out and Trea Turner with two outs before allowing a two-run double to Kyle Schwarber to extend the Phillies' lead. Chandler has issued at least four walks in five of his nine starts despite getting through six innings just one time all season. He had a 3.15 ERA over his first four starts but has pitched to a 6.95 ERA with a 19:18 K:BB ratio over his last five outings, covering 22 innings of work. Chandler is 1-5 with a 5.14 ERA and, while he has limited opponents to a .213 batting average, he has just a 36:31 K:BB ratio in 42 innings. Chandler is tentatively scheduled to take on the Blue Jays, in Toronto, on Thursday.
