Blue Jays right-hander Louis Varland pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save over the Pirates on Friday.

Varland entered the contest with the Blue Jays leading 3-1 in the eighth inning, and allowed an inherited run to score before stymying the Pirates the rest of the way. The Blue Jays offense added three of their own in the bottom half of the eighth before Varland sat down the Bucs in order in the ninth. The right-hander has been outrageous this season, posting a 0.65 ERA while going 7-for-7 in save opportunities across 25 appearances.
