Reid Detmers strikes out career-high 14 in no-decision Sunday

by David Leisering | Angels Correspondent | Mon, May 25th 8:03am EDT

Reid Detmers allowed one run on one hit, did not walk a batter, and struck out a career-high 14 as the Angels earned a 2-1 victory over the Rangers on Sunday night.

Fantasy Impact:

Detmers was dominant on Sunday night as he surpassed his previous career-high of 12 strikeouts and reached double figures for the seventh time in his career. The lefthander struck out at least one batter in all eight innings and tied Seattle's Emerson Hancock for the most strikeouts by a pitcher in an MLB game this season. The only hit he allowed was a solo home run by Jake Burger to lead off the second inning. The Angels' offense, however, could only muster a run through eight innings as well, leaving Detmers without the win. Detmers has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in five of his 11 starts this season and moved into a tie for third in the American League with 75 strikeouts in 63 innings. The lefthander is 1-5 with a 4.57 ERA and is scheduled to take on the Rays, in Tampa, on Saturday.
