Nick Gonzales goes deep for first time this season
by David Leisering | Pirates Correspondent | Sun, May 31st 11:35pm EDT
Nick Gonzales went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and a two-run home run on Sunday, helping the Pirates to a 9-3 victory over the Twins.
Fantasy Impact:
Gonzales hit a two-run homer off of Zebby Matthews in the third inning to extend the Pittsburgh lead to 4-0. It was his first home run of the season and his first since July 28 of last year against the Giants. While he won't offer much in the way of power or speed, Gonzales does rank ninth in the National League with a .303 batting average this season. However, of his 60 hits, only 10 have gone for extra bases (nine doubles, one home run).
