AJ Smith-Shawver turns in mostly solid performance in season debut
by Nate Miller | Braves Correspondent |
AJ Smith-Shawver gave up two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four over 4 1/3 innings in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Mets.
Fantasy Impact:
Smith-Shawver made his long-awaited return to the Braves on Wednesday. The 23-year-old righty had not pitched in the bigs since May of last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Smith-Shawver held the Mets scoreless over the first four innings in this one before getting in a bit of trouble in the fifth. Smith-Shawver was regularly hitting the upper-90s with his heater and found the zone with 43-of-69 pitches. He was activated as the 27th man for Wednesday's doubleheader, starting the first game. However, Smith-Shawver should be back on the mound for the Braves soon.
