Hunter Greene hit with no-decision Friday versus Pirates

by Brenton Kemp | Reds Correspondent |

Reds right-hander Hunter Greene allowed four earned runs on seven hits across six innings of work, taking a no decision against the Pirates on Friday.

Fantasy Impact:

Greene yielded seven hits, including a homer, while walking two in his six innings of work. He also struck out four. Two of his four earned runs surrendered came in the first inning, but he managed to hold the Pirates to two runs over his final five frames to allow his offense to work its way back into the game, which proved to be fruitful in an 8-7 comeback victory. Greene has mostly struggled since returning from elbow surgery, allowing 21 earned runs on 29 hits and nine walks across 27 2/3 innings, good for a 6.83 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. However, he has also struck out 33 in that time, and his 3.62 xFIP and 3.61 SIERA suggest that he has been much better than his surface ERA suggests, even in a small sample. Greene's name has been brought up in trade rumors ahead of Monday's trade deadline, but if he makes his next turn through the Reds' rotation, it will come on Thursday at home against the struggling A's.
