Reds closer Emilio Pagan pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win over the Pirates on Friday.

You'll have to dive into the MLB rulebook for this one, but Pagan was awarded a win, and not a save, after a clean ninth inning to nail down an 8-7 win over the Pirates on Friday. Pagan was awarded a win due to the fact that Pierce Johnson, who blew a lead in the eighth inning, and was deemed ineffective. A pitcher cannot earn a save and a win, so Pagan was awarded the W in this one. The right-hander has been excellent since returning from an injury on July 1, allowing just two earned runs with 15 strikeouts against just two walks (both in the same outing) across 9 1/3 innings of work.
