Braden Shipley picks up first career win; goes six scoreless

by Tony Pontecorvo | Mariners Correspondent | Sun, Jul 31st 3:38am EDT

Top prospect Braden Shipley earned the win in his second career start, pitching six scoreless innings in a victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shipley allowed five hits and a walk and struck out six. This performance was a vast improvement from his debut in Milwaukee (5.1 IP, 6 ER) when he allowed three home runs.

Fantasy Impact:

If you picked up Shipley for his debut and didn't drop him after that disaster, you were rewarded for your faith. Coming into the season, Shipley was in the top-20 of most MLB Prospect lists and is widely considered the top prospect for the Diamondbacks. In dynasty leagues, he is probably unavailable, but this performance showed what he is capable of. There will be ups and downs this season as there are with any rookie pitcher, but the talent is definitely there.
