Adbert Alzolay went four innings versus the Twins Wednesday. He would allow no runs, strike out five and earn his first save of the season in his return from a hamstring injury.
Alzolay had been a starter before the injury but is still young so they are trying to avoid putting a lot of innings on his arm this last month. He is probably not worth owning in most leagues.
Chicago Cubs pitcher Adbert Alzolay (hamstring) threw another successful bullpen session Friday.
Alzolay has been out since last Saturday due to a left hamstring strain. He threw a bullpen session on Friday, which reportedly “went well.” The Cubs right-hander could return after a minimum stay on the injured list. Alzolay has fantasy appeal in deep-league formats and had owned a 5.16 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and a 24.1 K% over 106 1/3 innings before landing on the IL.

Alzolay was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain Saturday. He will long toss and “touch and feel” off the mound in Wednesday's bullpen session. Barring a setback, the Cubs right-hander could return after a minimum stay on the injured list. Alzolay owns a 5.16 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and 107 strikeouts over 106 1/3 innings in 2021.
The Cubs have placed starting pitcher Adbert Alzolay on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Alzolay suffered the injury while pitching against the Marlins on Friday. He lasted just 1.1 innings in his start, allowing six earned runs on five hits. In total, he is 4-13 with a 5.16 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and .239 OBA through 21 outings this season. He was the No. 3 starter in the Cubs' rotation prior to going down.
Adbert Alzolay went 1 1/3 innings versus the Marlins Friday. He would allow six runs, fall to 4-13 on the season, and leave with some hamstring tightness.
Alzolay is one of the Cubs' best young pitchers despite the record and is growing into his potential (including the growing pains). He is a better option in longer-term formats.
