Carter Capps making progress in Triple-A

Carter Capps is 16 months removed from Tommy John surgery. He's posting a 3.60 ERA and a 13/8 strikeout-to-walk ration in 15 innings.

Fantasy Impact

Capps sounds healthy but is trying to iron out his delievery which remains controversial due to rule 5.07 stipulating that a pitcher cant take a second step toward home plate. Capps was called on it twice on June 25th but Padres manager Andy Green is hoping its an isolated incident and believes that before things are all said and done Capps will be a big part of the Padres bullpen.

Carter Capps logs scoreless inning in Triple-A

Carter Capps struck out a batter during a scoreless inning of work for the Padres' Triple-A affiliate. Capps is returning from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Impact

Capps has nearly made his way back from the procedure, as he could join the Padres sooner than later. Considering his track record, and the shakiness of the Padres' pen, Capps could find his way into save opportunities sooner than later.

Carter Capps begins throwing off of a mound

Carter Capps has finally started throwing off of a mound, finding his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2016. Capps was traded to the Padres from the Marlins at midseason and is fighting to become the closer for San Diego. He had 1.16 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 31 innings for Miami in 2015.

Fantasy Impact

Capps' explosive strikeout potential and dwindling walk rate over his last four healthy seasons lead many to believe that he is a breakout candidate at closer. The Padres do not have a stable option at closer in Brandon Maurer and that could open the door for Capps or Kevin Quackenbush. Capps was one of the most explosive relievers in 2015, but has no career saves, so temper your expectations if he wins the closer's job in San Diego.

Carter Capps has torn UCL; out for 2016 MLB Season

Carter Capps has torn his UCL and will be out for the 2016 major league baseball season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Impact

Anyone who thought Capps was going to close this season for the Marlins has unfortunately been let down. This solidifies A.J. Ramos as the current closer for the Miami Marlins and increases his fantasy value tremendously.

Carter Capps to learn if he needs Tommy John Surgery on Monday

Miami Marlins reliever Carter Capps will learn on Monday whether or not he will need to undergo Tommy John Surgery on his throwing arm.

Fantasy Impact

Capps seemingly came into camp healthy, but was then reported to have undergone an MRI which required a "second opinion". Now he will visit the dreaded Dr. James Andrews and will hear a verdict on his next 12-18 months on Monday. Capps was elite in his short time with the club last season, but we may not get another chance to see him pitch until mid-2017.
