RP Dan Otero pitched the ninth inning of the blowout 7-1 loss to the Astros on Monday. He gave up one run on one hit and struck out one over one inning of work.
Fantasy Impact
This was the ninth appearance Dan Otero has made for the Indians, striking out nine and allowing two earned runs over 10 1/3 innings. The right-hander was one of the best relief pitchers in 2013-2014 with a 2.00 ERA over 105 appearances (125 2/3 innings). He will increase his fantasy value if he can recapture that form.
Having given up just two runs in seven appearances, RHP Dan Otero continues to impress the Indians in Spring Training.
Fantasy Impact
Dan Otero is a leading candidate to secure one of the final bullpen spots. He has a strong ground-ball rate, with elite strike-throwing ability and decent stats vs. right-handers. Prior to his disastrous 2015 (6.75 ERA), he had posted 2.01 ERA over 125 innings for the Athletics. His velocity and swinging-strike rate were in line with his career stats, so if 2015 was a fluke, then Otero could be a useful addition in leagues that value middle relievers.
The Indians made their fourth signing in three days by acquiring RHP Dan Otero for cash considerations. The 30-year-old had been designated for assignment by the Phillies following the Ken Giles trade.
Fantasy Impact
Dan Otero had two impressive seasons for the Athletics in 2013 & 2014, with 2.00 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 82 strikeouts over 126 2/3 innings. 2015 was a disaster with 6.75 ERA in 42 appearances. The 30-year-old will warrant fantasy consideration if he is able to recapture the form that made him a premier bullpen arm.
The Phillies designated Righties AJ Achter and Dan Otero for assignment following Morton and Giles trades.
Fantasy Impact
Both were claimed off of waivers in November. Otero stands a very good chance of drawing interest while in limbo, as he is inexpensive and had success in 2013 and 2014. Achter could conceivably draw interest as well, however I'd say his chances of changing hands are about 50%. Both have options remaining and seem likely to serve in taxi squad middle relief for 2016.
Dan Otero picked up a loss today against the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched three innings, allowed two runs, and struck out two batters.
Fantasy Impact
Otero is now 2-4 on the year with an ERA over six. He is not on the fantasy radar.
