The Athletics have announced that right-hander Luis Medina has made the Opening Day roster and will operate out of the bullpen to begin the season.
Fantasy Impact
Medina certainly didn't have a great spring, allowing six earned runs and a hefty nine walks in just 7 1/3 innings of work, but will nonetheless get a chance to stick in the club's bullpen, beginning on Opening Day. The 26-year-old has posted a 5.35 ERA across 31 outings (25 starts) in the big leagues.
Medina missed the second half of 2024 and all of 2025 following Tommy John surgery. He made his Cactus League debut on Tuesday against San Diego, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over one inning.

His fastball reached 98.9 mph during the outing. Medina is out of minor-league options and will face workload restrictions in 2026, factors that led to his transition to relief this spring. Oakland is considering him for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen.
The Athletics have signed SP Luis Medina to a one-year contract.
Fantasy Impact
Medina did not pitch in 2025 as he recovered from Tommy John surgery. He is expected to be ready for spring training and could compete for a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Luis Medina threw a two-up bullpen session on Saturday, using all of his pitches.

Having undergone Tommy John surgery on August 7, 2024, Medina has been sidelined for the entire season. While he will not be pitching in a game this year, he's progressing well and is on track to throw a live batting practice session before the regular season concludes.
Athletics right-hander Luis Medina will begin mound progression in August as he works his way back from August 2024 Tommy Johny surgery.
Fantasy Impact
Medina won't pitch in games in 2025 but has reportedly made good progress in his recovery. The 26-year-old owns a 5.35 ERA in 31 outings (25 starts) in the big leagues.
