Astros manager Dusty Baker said Ryan Pressly is “the leader” to the be closer.
Pressly converted 12-of-16 save opportunities in 2020 and is “the leader” to close for the Astros in 2021. “Steve Cishek, Pedro Baez, and Joe Smith and couple of the lefties are capable,” Baker added. Pressly was effective last season, owning a 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 29:7 K:BB across 21 innings. The 32-year-old RHP is currently 13th among all relievers in the latest expert consensus draft rankings for 2021.

Pressly was used for the third consecutive day and recorded the final three outs on Friday to convert the save. With one runner on base, he got Mike Brosseau to ground into a double play to end the game. He did make things interesting by yielding an RBI double (unearned) to Willy Adames in the ninth. It was his third save of the postseason. Pressly owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and five strikeouts over five innings during the 2020 postseason.

Pressly gave up a leadoff single to Marcus Semien but got Tommy La Stella to fly out and Chad Pinder to ground into a double play to end the contest. He is now a perfect 2-for-2 in save opportunities this post season with a 0.00 ERA and 0.33 WHIP over three innings.
