Tyler Wells allowed one hit and one walk over one inning to record the save in Saturday's win over the Reds.
Fantasy Impact
Wells continues a strong stretch of late, holding opponents scoreless in 10 of his last 11 trips to the mound. The right-hander could be in line for increased usage in high-leverage situations while closer Ryan Helsley remains sidelined, posting a 3.02 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with a 1-1 record, 9.3 K/9 ratio, 11 holds, and two saves across 32 appearances.
Tyler Wells needed just 10 pitches to dispatch the Reds for a scoreless inning, because sometimes pitching really is that simple.
Fantasy Impact
Tyler Wells struck out one over one scoreless inning in Friday's win over the Reds. After the outing, he owns a 3.10 ERA and 1.03 WHIP with a 1-1 record, 9.5 K/9 and a 4.78 K/BB across 31 games. Wells got the first crack at the closers role after the Orioles placed Ryan Helsley on the IL. Wells does have some experience operating as a closer, so the Orioles could turn to him as long as he remains successful.
The Orioles recalled RHP Tyler Wells from Triple-A Norfolk.
Fantasy Impact
Wells gets another opportunity in the majors with Grant Wolfram landing on the injured list. He'll add some length in the Orioles bullpen.
Tyler Wells has been optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Baltimore Orioles in a series of moves made by the organization on Saturday.
Fantasy Impact
It's a bit of a surprising move as Wells has pitched well out of the Orioles' bullpen this season. However, he threw 25 pitches last night and, with a quick turnaround on Saturday, Baltimore needed some fresh arms in the bullpen. Wells has posted a 3.44 ERA with an 18:4 K:BB ratio in 18.2 innings this season. He's required to stay a minimum of 15 days at Triple-A before he is eligible to be recalled, unless Baltimore has another player hit the IL. And, the way the Orioles' season has gone, he could be back up in Baltimore sooner rather than later.
Tyler Wells will work out of the bullpen to begin the season.
Fantasy Impact
All four of Wells' appearances for the Orioles last season came as a starter, and just five of his 55 MLB games over the last four years have come as a reliever. However, the Orioles added multiple starting pitchers this offseason, and the club needs Wells to add depth to the bullpen.
