Grandal has killed fantasy teams in terms of batting average with his extended slumps, but when he is hot, there is no better hitting catcher in the league. Last season, he put together an .876 OPS in the second-half and could continue that production straight into 2017.

Yasmani Grandal looking at increased playing time in 2017
Yasmani Grandal is enjoying a productive spring training with the bat, hitting .378/.425./486 with one homer, three walks, and five strikeouts in 40 plate appearances (fifth-most playing time among Dodgers this spring). Over his past two seasons with the Dodgers, Grandal has made 426 and 457 plate appearances, limited by the presence of veteran backup A.J. Ellis, who served as a de facto personal catcher to star pitcher Clayton Kershaw. With Ellis gone and with no current hint of the nagging injuries that have plagued him at times, Grandal (who reportedly showed up to camp 10 pounds lighter than ever before) looks poised to set a career high by starting 130+ games in 2017.
At fantasy's scarcest position where playing time determines so much of a player's value, Grandal is probably being undervalued in most drafts as the 9th catcher off the board, according to the consensus ADP at FantasyPros. The expert consensus rankings see a profit there, ranking him 7th, but don't be surprised if he surges into the top 5 this season, particularly in formats that don't count batting average.
