Packers interested in Maxx Williams?

Despite the most pressing needs along the defensive front seven, Todd McShay’s early February mock draft has the Green Bay Packers selecting Minnesota tight end Maxx Williams in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. At first glance, it may seem unlikely for the Packers to draft an offensive player when help is needed on the defensive side of the ball (especially inside linebacker). However, with the recent release of TE Brandon Bostick , it does make sense to bring in some competition to push fellow tight ends Richard Rodgers and Andrew Quarless. (SB Nation)
Fantasy Impact:
Williams is viewed as the top tight end in the 2015 draft and rightfully so, as he is a legitimate pass-catching weapon and solid blocker. Despite Richard Rodgers’ spike in production towards the end of the season, Williams would provide the Packers with a tight end who can consistently beat defenders, stretch the field and make an impact in the red zone (82% of his catches in college went for either a first down or a touchdown). This is an area of the Packers’ offense that has been missing since the loss of Jermichael Finley and it would be tempting to see what Williams could do with Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball in 2015.
