Markus Wheaton moves to slot receiver position

The Pittsburgh Steelers want Markus Wheaton to primarily play the slot position in their three-WR formations. Personnel changes in Todd Haley’s system were needed due to the departure of Lance Moore. Wheaton has some prior slot experience, but more importantly, Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant are both more valuable when playing on the outside. (Triblive)
Fantasy Impact:
Unfortunately for Wheaton, he didn’t receive much action when playing the slot position in 2014. When lined up inside, he accumulated a mere 9 receptions out of 119 total routes. Granted, a full-time switch should create more opportunities after some adjusting, but it’s hard to put much faith in him from a fantasy perspective. On the other hand, Martavis Bryant just became a lot more interesting. It wasn’t going to be shocking to see Bryant jump Wheaton on the depth chart this year, but now it looks like he’s already the clear No. 2 wide receiver in Pittsburgh. Byrant is fully capable of putting up WR2 fantasy numbers in 2015.
